Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
A: I married an amazing guy while attending college at BYU. I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Social Work in 2001 and 2 weeks after graduation we had our first child. We’ve added two since then. I’ve loved being a stay at home mom and really feel like it’s where I’m supposed to be! My life really is full of fulfilled dreams, which is such a blessing. Just over a year ago is when I decided that my family and friends should not be forced to read my craft posts on my family blog if they weren’t interested, so with some inspiration from my friend, Sabra (Sew a Straight Line), I started A Lemon Squeezy Home.
Q: What events and/or people have led you to become an artist?
A: My mom sewed a lot for us while we were growing up. But other than sewing and crafting, I’ve always been interested in drawing, music, and other right-brained activities. My sisters are also very talented in these areas. I think that my mom just liked those things, my sisters liked them, and I ended up the same!
Q: How do you come up with your creative ideas?
A: My ideas come from all different sources. And at very random times. Perhaps when I shouldn’t even be thinking of them! I love to look at fashions and craft/sewing blogs, I love to see great photography and am definitely inspired by that. I also love to make things for my kids that will get them excited, so a lot of times if they really like something, that spurs an idea for me. I love when people ask me to guest post when there is a theme. That really gets me to push myself and think of things that I would have never thought of, otherwise.
Q: What’s your quirkiest attribute?
A: Ripping paper with teeth. Eeek. It just gives me the shivers.
Q: What would you say to someone who says they aren’t creative?
A: I know some of these people, ha ha! I would tell them that they haven’t found the right thing to try, yet! Explore and experiment. I love the blog world in this regard because people are kind and forgiving and actually enjoy reading of our failures along with our successes. I also find that at different stages in my life, I have liked different creative outlets. So don’t just think that if you get bored of one thing and feel your creative juices aren’t flowing anymore, then try something new!
Q: Where are your items available for sale?
A; I have JPEG or PDF files for sale, plus I sell glass tile pendants. I do have one sewing PDF tutorial for sale in my shop as well.
Q: What project/s do you currently have on your plate?
A: I really don’t have anything set in stone as of now. I have a list of “must makes” and “someday makes”, and that list is changing all the time. Some things have been completed, and sometimes the desire to make them is gone so I take them off my list!
Thanks so much for having me today, Becky! These were some great questions to think about!
