This past summer I built a bench and coffee table for the deck out of wood pallets and liked the result. With all the new tools I received for Christmas (nail gun, air compressor, miter saw and hand saw) the cold weather and tons of snow wasn’t going to stop me from building a new creation!
My husband’s “man cave” area is on the smaller side and only offers seating for 3 people. We have a couple extra high dining room chairs that stay in his area unless we need them when we have extra dinner guests, so it only made sense to build a tall table to accommodate more comfortable seating for the guys during the games. Placing a table behind the couch will allow for 2 extra observers, while also allowing for a great “back-up” serving table for us when we have gatherings.

Supplies Needed:
- Pallets
- Measuring tape
- Pencil (for marking)
- Miter saw (optional, but makes things MUCH easier)
- Sander (auto or sandpaper)
- Hammer/Nails
- Brackets (12)
Time taken (start to finish): 4 hours
Step 1: Choose your pallet
I had leftover pallets from earlier projects; therefore for the top of the table piece I chose a pallet in good shape with very little imperfections.
Step 2: Measure and cut
The top of the table was 14″; therefore we measured the pallet and cut. I LOVE power tools!
Step 3: Fill in gaps. We didn’t want large gaps of space for the table top, so we took pallet piece tops, cut them to size and nailed them into the open spaces.
Step 4: Add legs. To ensure a very sturdy table we purchased 4x4x6 pieces of wood cut to 31″ tall and screwed in brackets.
Step 5: Sand it down. Using an electric handheld sander we thoroughly sanded the entire table (top, bottom & sides).
Step 6: Paint/Stain (optional). We have yet to decide if we’re going to paint or stain this table, but either way when using pallets you need to at least seal with a polyurethane coat to ensure a good seal.
Good luck with your next project! Good luck!
This looks great! As always, I’m impressed by your craftiness.
